Cornwall, Ontario – Ultra marathon runner Ryan Keeping from Halifax made a brief stop in Cornwall and the surrounding SDG area on May 4 as part of his cross-Canada run to raise awareness and funds for heart disease, a cause personal to him due to his family’s history with the illness.

Early Saturday morning, local runners congregated in Lamoureux Park to join Ryan for a portion of his journey. His 7,386 km trek, which began on April 1 in St. John’s, NL, aims to conclude in Victoria, BC, in less than 100 days.

Sebastian Warner, director of the St. Lawrence Marathon, ran alongside Ryan from Ingleside to Morrisburg. The St Lawrence Marathon contributed race nutrition and a $250 donation to support them with their expenses during the trip. “Meeting Ryan and his family was truly inspiring,” Warner remarked.

Local athlete Cody Taylor also met Ryan and expressed how the encounter motivated him for his own upcoming Bruce Trail run and fundraiser for Alexander Park in Cornwall. “Ryan and his family are extremely nice and are raising money for a great cause,” said Taylor.
