CORNWALL, Ontario – Sydney St. will re-open to traffic as of 8 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, Sept. 4.
“Lane closures will occur over the next few weeks to complete surface restoration of driveways, walkways, and boulevards,” reads a statement on the City of Cornwall Facebook page.
The $1.8 million roadwork project had closed Sydney St. from Second St. to Fourth St. as of May 27.
“The project includes replacement of the watermain and sanitary sewer along with constructing a new storm sewer. Sidewalks, curbs and the full depth of the road will also be reconstructed,” reads a press release on the City of Cornwall website.
The re-opening of this section of Sydney St. marks the completion of Phase 1 of a multi-phase road reconstruction project that will see sections of the street up-to the Ninth St. intersection undergo similar work until 2022.
In a statement to Seaway News the City’s Division Manager of Infrastructure Michael Fawthrop said that this part of the project is on time and on budget.
