Accident at Ninth and Pitt St. intersection destroys traffic lights
The traffic accident occurred between a Camaro RS and a Toyota Matrix shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday

CORNWALL, Ontario – At the time of publication, no injuries were reported from a traffic accident which occurred at the intersection of Ninth and Pitt Streets shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 26.

The accident destroyed one of the traffic lights at the intersection.

Paramedics, Police and Fire services were on the scene within minutes and checked on the passengers of the vehicles, which included children.

The collision was between a Camaro RS and Toyota Matrix. Shortly after the accident flames were seen coming from the Camaro, but were quickly extinguished by the firefighters on scene.

Cornwall Electric was called to turn off power to the intersection as the Camaro RS impacted the traffic light pole on the corner next to the Tim Hortons. The Camaro’s impact with the pole ripped the pole completely out of the ground. No word at this time on when it will be replaced.

Police closed Ninth Street from Sydney Street to just after Pitt Street. Tow trucks were on scene in under an hour and the cleanup began shortly after that.
