Cornwall police deal with barricaded person

UPDATE 9:40 a.m.: The standoff has ended safely. Carleton St. is now open.

CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) announced Thursday morning that they were dealing with a barricaded person in Cornwall’s East End.

“The Cornwall Community Police Service has cordoned off a section of the city as a result of an incident that took place at Carleton Street address early this morning,” CCPS said in a statement. “As a result of the incident, the Cornwall Emergency Response Team is assisting in maintaining a perimeter for the public safety. Negotiators are attending the scene to make contact with the person as he has barricaded himself inside the residence.”

CCPS are asking residents to avoid the area and remain in their homes. They have setup a perimeter in the area of Carleton Street, between First Street and Walton Street.
