CORNWALL, Ontario – Hundreds of people lined up for a drink of craft beer and a shot to fight back against juvenile diabetes.
Crafting for a Cure raised over $10,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
The event featured six Ontario craft breweries and a silent auction containing signed memorabilia from NHL stars and actors from The Sons of Anarchy.
Jeff Lalonde, event organizer, and his fiancée Cherie McCormick, held the event to raise awareness about a disease that impacts more than 300,000 Canadians.
“This is an issue that strikes home with me as I have two kids with Type 1 diabetes (T1D). This event is all for them,” said Lalonde. “It’s amazing how much the community has pulled together.”
Kerry Winnemore, JDRF fundraising and development manager of North Eastern Ontario, said the event will help local youth who suffer from diabetes.
“The money raised at this event will fund clinical trials happening in this region,” said Winnemore. “The progression of juvenile diabetes research is optimistic. This funding is a huge help.”
More than 80 per cent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education and advocacy.
