CORNWALL, Ontario – The Escape Room at the SD&G Cornwall Jail celebrated its Grand Opening on Friday, June 2.
The Escape Room had a soft opening three weeks ago and will be running right up to Halloween this year.
SD&G Warden Jim Bancroft was at the event and praised new United Counties of SD&G Tourism Coordinator Shauna Baggs for helping bring this unique activity to the jail.
“Shauna took this on without a lot of previous experience,” he said. “She took this job by the horns and today is one of the really good results.”
Baggs worked closely with Escape Manor, the company that designs the Escape Room puzzles. Escape Manor has been operating for three years and has done Escape Room events at the Ottawa Museum of Nature and the Diefenbunker.
There have been several groups of people who have already experienced the Escape Room. Each group starts by being sentenced to imprisonment and hanging by the court judge. After they are lead away and locked-up, the group then have to figure out how they will make their escape. If successful, they will earn their exoneration.
“Its an interactive experience that gets people out of their comfort zones,” said Escape Manor team member Billy Rogers. “Its a throwback to the good old days when you had to make your own fun.”
The Escape Room runs every weekend, with a special event planned for Halloween.
