CORNWALL, Ontario – Fire, police and paramedics were called to a fire on Alice Street late Tuesday night, May 8.
Firefighters arrived at the scene of a blaze in a second floor apartment in a building on the northwest corner of Alice and Walton streets.
They arrived on the scene around 11 p.m.
The fire was quickly brought under control and a cause has yet to be determined.
On-lookers at the scene told Seaway News that one man lived in the upstairs apartment and escaped the fire. A man was being cared for on the scene by the firefighters until paramedics arrived. He was taken away on a stretcher and his condition is unknown.
Firefighters were dismantling the roof and walls of the apartment to ensure that the fire was indeed out.
