CORNWALL, Ontario – A bursary is being created at Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School to honour the life of one of its staunchest supporters.
The family of Judy Bobka announced Tuesday the creation of the “Judy Bobka Memorial Fund” at the school, which will go towards creating a bursary at the school for a deserving graduate.
Bobka, a popular guidance counsellor and community volunteer passed away last week at age 75.
“Thank you to everyone for the support during the months of Judy’s illness, hospitalization as well as in these first days after her passing,” her daughter Sarah Bobka and husband Dan said in a joint statement. “Judy was someone who brought people together, cared passionately for her community and worked tirelessly (usually behind the scenes).
“She had an impeccable memory for people, stories and events and we wanted to find a way to capture and share some of the wonderful ‘Judy’ memories that have been coming to us.”
A website has been launched, www.TributetoJudyBobka.ca, where mourners can share memories, stories and pictures of their experiences with Bobka.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to this fund would be greatly appreciated. Information about how to donate can be found on the website.
“These stories have been giving us great comfort as we remember the vibrant, wonderful life Judy led, rather than the difficult last few months of her illness,” the statement continued. “We wanted to share these with her friends, colleagues, neighbours, former students and others who cared about her.”
A ‘Celebration of Life’ service for Judy will be held on Saturday in the cafetorium at CCVS. A meet and greet will take place for 1-2 p.m. and 3-4 p.m. with a ceremony from 2-3 p.m.
Cheques for the fund will also be accepted at the Celebration of Life Service on Saturday.
