CORNWALL, Ontario – A strategic alliance of law enforcement raided 7,547 pot plants in the Cornwall area.
The takedown of local marijuana operations was no easy task, since officers were faced with dangerous ‘booby traps.’ In this case there were a few bear traps modified with nails.
Operation SABOT, a yearly Canada-wide marijuana eradication program, is held by the RCMP and Canadian Armed Forces, in alignment with multiple policing agencies. Together they utilize their concentrated resources, aerial patrols and the assistance of concerned citizens, to locate outdoor marijuana grow operations and shut them down.
The objective of the operation is to seize the crops prior to harvesting and reduce the supply of weed to Canadian communities.
Between Sept. 16 and 20, the Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF), along with members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Cornwall Community Police Service conducted their marijuana eradication operation within Prescott-Russell, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry counties.
During the massive seizure, a Hawkesbury man tried to flee the scene as police were approaching. Charges for this individual are pending further investigation.
