CORNWALL, Ontario – McConnell Avenue will be closed at Eleventh Street for a period of two to three weeks starting Aug. 31.
The immediate area will remain accessible to local traffic, however through traffic will be detoured, primarily, via Tollgate Road, Pitt and Sydney Streets and Ninth Streets. Appropriate detour signage will be in place.
The MacEwen station at Eleventh Street and McConnell Avenue will remain accessible via the eastern entrance on McConnell Avenue south of Eleventh Street.
The closure is necessary in order to complete the installation of a new sanitary sewer from the new pumping station on Eleventh Street to the eastern limit of McConnell Avenue. Cornwall Gravel Company has been awarded the contract to carry out this work.
It is part of a larger, multi-year project to mitigate flooding issues in the area of Grand Avenue, Miron Avenue and Eleventh Street. The work began in 2014 and it involves removing the old Guy Street sewage pumping station and constructing a new one on Eleventh Street, constructing a new storm sewer on Marlborough Street from Second Street to Eighth Street and building a new deeper sanitary sewer on Eleventh Street and parts of Grand Avenue and Miron Avenue.
