CORNWALL, Ontario – South Stormont leaders have been pursuing a new medical clinic for quite some time. And today, with a few shovels of dirt, construction officially got underway.

A conceptual drawing of the new facility was unveiled at a groundbreaking ceremony Friday.

South Stormont council members and staff, St. Lawrence Medical Clinic doctors and staff, the Project Management team from CIBS Construction, and several members of the public were on hand to celebrate a new beginning in health care in Ingleside.

“We are very excited to see a shovel in the ground,” said Mayor Bryan McGillis. “There is a very tight timeline for the clinic to be completed and we thank everyone involved for making this happen. Doctors are needed and we anticipate this new facility will attract new professional services to this great community, South Stormont.”

Loriann Harbers, South Stormont’s director of corporate services, says the almost 6,400-square-foot medical clinic will provide easy central access and the necessary professional services for teaching and expanded medical services. The clinic will have 11 exam rooms, a state of the art ECG room, and a lab.

The new medical clinic is scheduled to open on Thorold Lane on August 29.
