CORNWALL, Ontario – Interested buyers will get a sneak peak at the concept for a new downtown development at an event next week.
Dominion Place, the new condo complex being designed for the corner of Pitt and Second streets in Cornwall, will hold an official opening for its showroom June 12 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The event takes place at 26 First Street West, home of Ron Chenier and Associates.
In attendance will be Heather Kembell, the lead architect on the project who also helmed the design work for Central Public School in Cornwall.
“In designing Dominion Place, we were very cognizant of the importance of this site in central Cornwall,” said Kembell. “The history of the site and its prominent position demanded a building with presence and distinction; a building which will be referenced as a landmark in the city.”
The hope is that soon Dominion Place, a four-storey condo complex, will begin construction later this year, with occupancy to follow in 2015.
Dominion Place will feature 15-suites, at 2,379 to 2,551 sq. ft. – twice the size of typical bungalows.
“It’s about maintaining a lifestyle,” said Chenier, the Dominion Place Condos project president, in an earlier interview.
Dominion Place is aimed at professional or active retired couples who want a living space bigger than the average suite.
The building is designed in modern style, with a classical touch to coincide with local historical buildings. A stone facade with large bright windows and a curved corner facing the downtown area are other distinguishing characteristics.
It also offers a roof top terrace, two meeting rooms, BBQ area with views of the St-Lawrence River, exercise facility and office space on the main floor.
The luxury condos will stand where the King George Hotel once stood; a large concrete slab and painted wood fence currently occupy the space. The hotel was destroyed in 1997 by a fire.
Chenier has indicated construction will begin once 65 per cent of the condo space is sold.
