Police officials on U.S. side of reserve suspended, cash account scrutinized

CORNWALL, Ontario – The police chief, a supervising officer and a civilian have been suspended by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department indefinitely while a discrepancy in a petty cash account is scrutinized.

The Watertown Daily Times is reporting police chief Andrew Thomas, supervising officer Larry Edgeley and the civilian were suspended last month and an acting chief has been appointed for the time being.

The Daily Times reported the local district attorney is aware of the situation, and has been in touch with police officials, who are conducting an internal review.

At this point the state police are not part of any investigation.

The St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department patrols the U.S. side of the Akwesasne reserve.
