CORNWALL, Ontario – Models took to the runway once again for the SDG OSPCA’s annual fundraiser, Posing for Paws. The evening centred on designs from local retailers, five in total, with some debuting for the first time at the event. Last year, Posing for Paws managed to raise $16, 000, and this year’s organizers hope to reach that goal again.

The event was spearheaded by Christina Russell and Angie Savard. The main sponsor for the evening was J&A Collisions, with big support also coming from Scotiabank and Fresh 104.5.

“Four years ago, Christina decided that she needed to do an event that was kind of bigger than we were doing before,” said Savard.

Christina Russell, who has been volunteering with the OSPCA for eight years, was the MC for the night, along with Fresh 104.5’s Jimmy Kalaitzis. Fashions were provided by Echo Trends, Stella and Dot with Sarah, TSC Cornwall, Schulman’s Men’s and Lady’s Clothing, and the Squire Shop.

“Every year we try to come out with a new, fun, exciting event. To bring the community together and raise funds and awareness for the OSPCA, since we’re a not-for profit and receive no government funding,” said Russell.

“We were doing an auction one year, and thought we’d combine it with a fashion show, and it just all came together. It was a way for us to feature local vendors who support us all year round.”

Tickets were $20 in advance at Scotiabank, for $25 at the door. Musical entertainment was provided at intermission from local band Two Dimensions.

“Next year is going to be huge, it’s the five year anniversary and we’re planning on making it big,” said Savard.

Those looking for a fun-filled, fashion-focused way to spend their evening, and raise money for a great cause, would do well to attend next year’s event.
