Tens of thousands likely for Ribfest: Lions club prez

CORNWALL, Ontario – If you plan to head to Ribfest this summer be prepared for plenty of company.

Phil Shorey, president of the Cornwall Seaway Lion’s Club told Seaway News if the weather holds out (hardly a guarantee given the sub-par performance by Mother Nature so far this summer) there could be as many as 60,000 people who pass through Lamoureux Park during the three-day festival July 26-28.

“It’s not out of the question,” Shorey said of his prediction. “It’s definitely going to be bigger this year, that’s for sure.”

There is going to be an increase in the number of vendors selling their wares at Cornwall Seaway Lions Club Ribfest.

The number of vendors has nearly doubled to more than a dozen.

The same six ribbers as last year will return this summer – much to the delight of the thousands of people who will no doubt return to sample their delicious concoctions again.

“Everybody that was involved with us last year were hoping to get 20,000 people,” said Shorey in an earlier interview. “Instead we figure it was closer to 47,000.

“We had a lot of people from New York State and the West Island of Montreal show up.”

Live entertainment will also be a cornerstone at this year’s event. Chris Hum, Roxanne Delage, the Heatley Band, Hotel California and River City Junction will play over the course of the three-day event.

Shorey is encouraging patrons to keep their Ribfest programs for a chance at prizes for the duration of the event.
