CORNWALL, Ontario – As temperatures continue to drop, an annual coat drive is heating things up.

Doctors Joel Leger and Kylie Draper of Cornwall Spine Care Plus+ collected over 200 garments through their ‘One War Coat’ drive to help the city’s underprivileged stay protected from the wintery weather.

“It was extremely heart-warming to see people showing up at our door with multiple snowsuits in hand ready to donate,” said Draper.

Aside from new and gently used winter coats and accessories, monetary donations were also accepted. All funds and jackets raised during the campaign went directly to the Salvation Army in Cornwall.

“Pastor Oren Cole is already in touch with area families in need, so they have places to go before we even get them,” said Leger.

The local business was able to collect over 60 in 2013, and 110 in 2014, not including mittens and toques.

It all started to help local families who are forced to make financial decisions between purchasing clothing for the upcoming months and food for the holiday season.

“At Spine Care+, our primary goal is to guide and educate this community on all facets related to health and optimal physical function,” said Leger.

If you’re interested in donating, visit Cornwall Spine Care+ at 117 Eleventh Street West, between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 613-938-1000 or visit online at www.spinecareplus.ca or www.facebook.com/CornwallSpineCarePlus.
