Three trustees acclaimed at CDSBEO

KEMPTVILLE – There will be a few new faces the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario trustee board this fall as two long-time members from the Cornwall-area depart.

The close of the nomination period for this fall’s English-Catholic board school elections August 19 saw current chair Todd Lalonde and former chair Ron Eamer not file. Lalonde is seeking  one of three councillor positions in South Glengarry Township this fall.

The Cornwall-Glengarry ward has two trustee positions at the CDSBEO, leaving two vacancies to fill. By the nomination deadline on August 19, only one person had filed their nomination papers – Karen Torrie-Racine. Torrie-Racine was acclaimed once nominations were certified last week. The deadline was extended and former CDSBEO Principal Donna Nielsen filed her nomination papers August 23.

Current trustee vice chair Sue Wilson (Prescott-Russell), trustee Karen McAllister (Dundas-Stormont), and trustee Brent Laton (Grenville/Elizabethtown-Kitley) were unopposed and have been acclaimed to another four year term.

Trustee Paula Hart (Leeds/Brockville/Smiths Falls), who was appointed to the board last year following the death of Robin Riel, did not seek a new term. Three are running for office in that ward:  Christopher Cummings, Quentin Ferrant, and David Freedom.

Lanark County trustee Jennifer Cooney will face Max Benda in the only other CDSBEO trustee race this election.

English-Catholic voters will cast their ballots October 24 as part of local municipal elections.
