CORNWALL, Ont. – One person was taken to hospital after a crash involving two vehicles on Wednesday afternoon at Sydney and Fifth streets.
One vehicle’s front end was left severely crumpled, while the other ended up on the sidewalk, colliding with a traffic light causing it to bend at a steep angle.
The crash forced authorities to close the left and middle lanes of northbound Sydney as a group of firefighters used peat moss to absorb fluid that leaked from one of the cars.
The collision happened around 10:45 a.m.
The Cornwall Community Police Service told Seaway News that alcohol is not a factor in this case but officers are still investigating the incident.
One driver suffered minor injuries, while the other managed to get away unscathed.
Black & McDonald Ltd. workers at the scene told Seaway News the traffic light will have to be replaced.
