CORNWALL, Ontario – A disturbing trend overshadowed Friday’s Cornwall police blotter.
The Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) reported that a pair of city men broke the cardinal rule: never hurt mom.
Police said a 19-year-old Cornwall man threatened to kill his mother on Tuesday, July 1 (Canada Day).
According to the CCPS blotter, when she attempted to dial 911, he took the phone from her and damaged it.
On July 3, in a violent outburst, he grabbed his mother by the throat with two hands. Once again, he threatened to kill her. Then, the accused damaged a therapeutic foot bath.
Police were contacted and an investigation was conducted.
On July 10, the man was charged with assault, two counts of uttering threats and two counts of mischief under $5,000.
He was held for a bail hearing. His name is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
The second case is even more revolting.
According to the CCPS blotter, a 28-year-old Cornwall man engaged in a verbal argument with his mother which escalated to him grabbing a knife from the kitchen and threatening to kill her and her dog with it.
The incident took place on Thursday, July 10.
As he approached her, luckily, man’s (and woman’s) best friend came between them. She managed to grab the dog, and flee the residence.
Police were contacted and an investigation was conducted.
The local woman did not suffer any injury as a result of this incident.
The accused was charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats toward a person and an animal, and possession of a dangerous weapon.
He was held for a Bail Hearing. His name is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
