CORNWALL, Ontario – The St. Lawrence College Nursing class of 1979 is planning their 40 year reunion for the first week of June.

The 1979 St. Lawrence College Nursing staff had 35 graduates, who were just the second class ever to complete the program. From June 2 to 5 they are being invited back to Cornwall to the Nav Centre to reunite, reminisce and celebrate.

On Sunday, June 2, the reunion will begin with a reception at St. Lawrence College starting at 5 p.m. along with cocktails and a BBQ.

The next morning, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. the class of ’79 will be holding a cancer walk to raise funds for breast cancer research. They will be walking from the Nav Centre to St. Lawrence College and back. In the evening, there will be a dinner at Summerheights Golf Links.

June 4 will be a farewell dinner and dance at the Nave Centre, followed by an informal lunch the next day at the Blue Anchor, an old hangout spot for the class of ’79.

Joan Daigneault, one of the nursing graduates from that class said she appreciated the hands on experience that the program offered.

“This program started you in the hospital right away so you know in the first two weeks if you could do it or not,” she said.

Merry Cardinal said she was looking forward to seeing old friends again at the reunion.

“I think we were a really close-knit class,” she said. “At our 37 year reunion a few years ago it was like we all picked up where we left off.”

Any member of the class of ’79 who would like to go to the reunion in June are asked to contact slcnursing79@gmail.com
