Remembering Carl

CORNWALL, Ontario – On May 1, 2019, a well-known face in Cornwall’s East End was lost. Carl Henry Lalonde Jr. passed away at his home, he was 68.

Carl was often seen travelling all around Cornwall, but especially the East End, on his trusty bicycle.

A gentle soul, Carl was often met with kindness from those he encountered, but not always.

His friend Denis Charlebois remembered how Carl would help him fix his bikes when he was younger, and in recent years, Charlebois took in Carl, and gave him a trailer on his property where he could store some of his belongings.

“I have compassion,” said Charlebois. “We had known each other for a long time. There were times people didn’t treat him right, but what’s an extra pork chop and a potato. Carl was set in his ways and he didn’t want anyone to take care of him. He had his mental health issues, but how could you get mad at somebody like that.”

Charlebois explained that Carl had suffered from pneumonia in late 2018 and had also recently suffered a stroke.

A celebration of Carl’s life will take place at Lahaie & Sullivan Funeral Home East Branch, 614 First Street East, (613-933-2841) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2019. Interment will take place at St. Andrews West Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, Memorial Donations to Canadian Mental Health Association would be greatly appreciated by the family. Messages of condolences may be left at www.lahaiesullivan.ca
