CORNWALL, Ontario – Curlers from across the region descended upon Cornwall’s Curling Club this weekend, with the 18th annual Julie Bridger Bonspiel taking place from Friday, November 8 through to Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019.

“We have it every year, we have 24 teams playing this year,” said organizer Paul Carroll. “It’s a full event. We have teams from as far away as Sherbrooke, Quebec, Kingston, Brockville, a few teams from Ottawa and six local teams.”

The first stone hit the ice on Friday night, with the finals set to take place on Sunday around noon. At the time of publication, two teams from Cornwall had earned spots in the finals.

“Our theme this year is New Orleans,” said Carroll. A costume dinner, including a live musical performance, was planned for after the games, in keeping with the theme for the year.

Prizes were to be awarded for the best costumes. Additionally, designated drivers and a shuttle were planned in order to allow people to enjoy alcoholic refreshments and arrive home safely.

The event was sponsored by Riverside Pizza and Perras Distefano Construction.

Final results were not available at the time of publication.
