CORNWALL, Ontario – The sweet acoustic sound of bluegrass will ring out in Cornwall’s Aultsville Theatre on Friday, Sept. 13.

The Slocan Ramblers have travelled the country sharing their bold and sometimes experimental take on bluegrass music.

The Slocan Ramblers are a four-piece band that began in Toronto, playing at a spot called the Cloak and Dagger. They quickly started to gain notoriety.

Since forming, the Slocan Ramblers have opened for Steve Martin at Bluesfest in Ottawa, they have been recognized or nominated for prestigious awards, including being nominated for Best Roots Album of the Year at the 2019 Juno Awards.

The band’s banjo player Frank Evans said that he grew up loving the old sound and community feel of bluegrass and cites the Foggy Hogtown Boys as an influence.

“It isn’t necessarily about playing fast solos all the time, it is more about a communal type of music,” he said.

Evans want to see people come out to their show to experience bluegrass in all its glory.

“To fully understand that style of music, you have to see it live,” he said. “People tell me all the time ‘I thought I hated bluegrass all my life until I saw it live.’”

On the writing said, Evans explained that it was sometimes easier to create when coming from a darker place.

“People have different places they draw from, it might be cliché, but it is easier when we come from a dark place and we all have had hard times like that,” Evans said.

Tickets are $40 and are on-sale now at the Cornwall Civic Complex box office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, or ticket buyers can call 613-938-9400 or by searching for Aultsville Theatre at www.tickepro.ca
