CORNWALL, Ont. – Fans across the region will miss the lively, yet soothing voice of Sue Stewart as the final chapter of a 20-year career draws to a close.
The Finch-native is signing off as co-host of Fresh Mornings with Jimmy & Sue on 104 FM to fully pursue her real estate career with ReMax Cornwall.
Her final broadcast will air from 6-9 a.m. on Monday (April 11).
“I’m really going to miss this, being a voice for people who needed one,” Sue Stewart told Seaway News in an interview at the Corus Radio Cornwall station on Sunday (April 3).
In addition to providing entertaining commentary, local news updates, and promoting special events, Stewart has also become well-known for her volunteer efforts and charity fundraising. She is an active member of Team Cornwall.
“The most rewarding part of the past 20 years is knowing that I was able to help out in a small way and together our efforts have helped make Cornwall a better place to live,” she said.
Stewart first considered a career behind the microphone after catching the attention of a CBC Radio staffer when she was only 15, while hosting a mud bog competition at the Finch Antique and Steam Show.
“He said, I’d make a great announcer one day,” said Stewart.
After graduating college, she landed a radio job in Huntsville, but it would be only a year before she landed back in eastern Ontario at CJSS on Water Street.
“My son Ryan was two months old at that time and now he is off to university,” said Stewart. “My daughter Alex is now 9, and this move gives me a chance to be a normal Mom and spend mornings with my family.”
Stewart leaves behind great memories of a radio career that has also helped forge profound friendships.
“I have had the privilege of working with some great people on both sides of the microphone,” said Stewart. “I look forward to continuing to make a difference and help people find their next home.”
