CORNWALL, Ontario – In the fitness business less is more – and the best illustration of that fact can be found in the success of the inaugural Cornwall’s Biggest Loser event that took place last year.
Ten teams of two people each lost more than 1,000 pounds last fall, and organizers are ramping up again for the 2013 edition of the popular weight-loss regimen.
“This is not a crash diet,” enthused organizer MJ Cardinal, of the Cardinal Chiro Clinic. “We’re showing people how to eat for the rest of their life.
“Because fitness and eating well is the key to a healthy life.”
More than 350 applicants submitted entries for this year’s event, which will see 20 contestants begin a 15-week weight-loss regimen Sept. 3. Teams will weigh-in once a week, and compete for a chance to win cash or a vacation.
Each of the 10 teams is sponsored by a local business.
Team members will also work out four times a week at Quest Fitness in Cornwall with trainer Tom Irvine, and Cardinal will be providing meal plans for contestants.
Competitors from last year, who were able to keep their weight off, will return this year to act as mentors for the new recruits.
Seaway News will be publishing the weekly weigh-in winners, as well as a complete roster of the contestants in an upcoming issue of the newspaper.
