CORNWALL, Ontario – David Markell, 42, of Cornwall was arrested on Sunday, July 28 and charged with cruelty to animals.

It’s alleged in early July, police were notified that a severely emaciated dog was brought to a veterinary office. As a result, an investigation ensued.

On July 28, Markell attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on September 12, 2019.

ASSAULT POLICE, BREACH

A 38-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on July 26, 2019 and charged with breach of probation for communicating with his ex-girlfriend, being within 50 meters of her and for failing to keep the peace. He was also charged with assault police. It is alleged on July 26 the man attended his ex-girlfriend’s residence despite his conditions and police were contacted to investigate. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody and he spat on an officer. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as would identify the victim in the matter.

BREAK AND ENTER, ESCAPE LAWFUL CUSTODY, RESIST ARREST, BREACH

Marc Jodoin, 44, of Cornwall was arrested on July 26, 2019 and charged with break and enter, escape lawful custody, resist arrest, breach of probation and undertaking for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on July 25, the man forced his way into a residence on Kirkman Court and removed some property. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On July 26th, 2019 the man was located by police, taken into custody for the break and enter at which point he broke free from police. A struggle ensued as the man was taken into custody a second time. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing.

ASSAULT, UNLAWFULLY IN A DWELLING, BREACH OF PROBATION

A 45-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on July 27, 2019 and charged with assault x2, unlawfully in a dwelling and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace. It is alleged on July 26 the man assaulted his ex-girlfriend and one of her friends. It is also alleged on July 27 the man entered her residence without permission. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. During the investigation, the man was taken into custody, charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. His name was not released as it would identify the victims in the matter.

FRAUD UNDER $5,000, UNLAWFUL USE OF A CREDIT CARD, BREACH

Brett Ellis, 20, of Cornwall was arrested on July 28, 2019 and charged with the following:

• Fraud under $5,000
• Unlawful use of credit card
• Breach of probation for being in the company of a certain person, and failing to keep the peace.

It is alleged on May 12, 2019, the man was in possession of a bankcard that did not belong to him. The man is alleged to have used the card at a Marlborough St. business during the early morning hours of May 12 while in the company of a man he is to have no contact with. Police were contacted and an investigation ensued. On July 28 he attended police headquarters to deal with the matter. He was taken into custody, charged accordingly and released to appear in court on September 12, 2019.
