Almost two years after it was announced, what was touted as one of Alexandria’s largest developments ever, has failed to get off the ground.
In September of 2022, IHA Canada Inc. held a ground-breaking ceremony for Glengarry Hills, “a unique senior living community” on Industrial Boulevard, adjacent to the Glengarry Sports Palace.
But since then, there has been little action on the 54-acre site, which was supposed to house a 750-unit “campus of care.”
The construction of the first two phases was scheduled to start in the summer of 2023.
However, only two units have been located on the property, and they are now for sale.
Buyers would have to move the buildings from the property, according to the listing posted by a Cornwall realtor.
The asking price for a one-bedroom 600-square-foot unit is $120,000, says Rob Poulin, while a 525-square-foot unit is going for $110,000.
The houses are described as having “great potential for adding a second unit to a property or replacing an old hunting camp.”
The buildings can be left on site for a short period of time “but will need to be moved,” the listing stipulates.
The Glengarry Hills web site is no longer active.
Attempts to reach the company for comment had at press time proved to be futile.
The retirement village was to provide seniors with modern, environmentally friendly, affordable rental accommodations.
