CORNWALL, Ontario – The second annual Purple Colour Run is set to see attendees supporting Sexual Assault Support Services for Women of SDG&A on Saturday, June 15.

Runners are asked to register between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. the day of, with a children’s run and purple chalk throwing beginning at 10 a.m. at the Cornwall Bandshell. The adult run will also begin at the Bandshell and consist of a 5 km route with chalk stations set up along the way. Cornwall Trophy Shop donated participation medals this year that will be included in runner’s goody bags.

“It’s not a real race; you can walk, run or roll, whatever you are comfortable with,” said Organizer Amanda Marini-Rohde.

Marini-Rohde explained that children can register to run for $10 and adults for $25 prior to the event, however the price will increase to $30 for adults on the day of the run. Runners may pay with cash or cheque and register by calling, emailing, messaging on social media or attending SASS in-person.

“I’m hoping for the same (turnout) as last year,”  said Marini-Rohde, who noted over 150 attendees in 2018. “I am still in need of volunteers. It takes a lot of volunteers to make this production happen. Last year we had a great group…we had about 40 to 50.”

Funds raised from the event will go towards programming for community members and clients.

“So that includes our healing art group, which is weekly,” said Marini-Rhode, who is hoping to showcase some of the art at the run. “(Also) our monthly SASS socials, I Am An Emotional Creature, Girl Spoken and our Women Empowerment series.”

“We wanted something different that we can get more of the community involved in and something that would be fun,” said Executive Director Angela Vinet during last year’s run.
