Globally acclaimed documentary being screened here for the first time

CORNWALL, Ontario – A documentary that details the story of a Cornwall man who nearly stabbed a local woman to death is being screened publicly in the Seaway City for the first time.

The Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation will be hosting a fundraiser and open forum which will include the screening of the film NCR: Not Criminally Responsible on Nov. 7 at Aultsville Theatre.

The film recounts the story of Sean Clifton, a former Cornwall resident, who was declared not criminally responsible after he stabbed Julie Bouvier in the storefront of the Cornwall Walmart in 1999.

The film looks at both sides of the discussion and personalizes the moral concerns raised regarding mental illness.

“This movie has been shown around the world so we appreciate the opportunity to finally share our story with those living right here in our community. Through this journey of forgiveness and healing we certainly have a greater understanding of the stigma that surrounds mental illness,” said Bouvier’s father Andy.

After the screening there will be an open forum with a respected panel of guests including four-time Emmy Award-winning producer and director of NCR, John Kastner; Noella and Andy Bouvier and Christine Penney, Vice-President of Community Programs at CCH.

The Foundation is currently raising funds for the new Addiction and Mental Health Centre which will be located on the McConnell property.  There are seven services that will make the move to the new building, with occupancy projected to take place by the end of 2016.

“Having all community based services under one roof will help with access and transfer from one program to another,” said Penney.
