CORNWALL, Ontario – The Cornwall Community Police Service (CCPS) confirmed to Seaway News on Friday, Sept. 7 that they were still investigating the fire that took place in late July on the corner of Alice St. and Montreal Rd.

CCPS still believe that the fire is suspicious and are asking members of the public who took video or witnessed the first five minutes of the fire to contact them.

The fire took place at around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 26 and destroyed two residential buildings and Poirier Furniture.

Within 30 minutes of the fire starting, the first residential building collapsed.

This past week, members of teh CCPS Forensic Unit were witnessed at the site of the fire sifting through the rubble.

“Our Identification Unit and Criminal Investigations Division, alongside the Fire Department, are working collaboratively to investigate the fire,” wrote Stephanie MacRae of the CCPS in an email to Seaway News. “Multiple witnesses have been spoken to, but police are still seeking any witnesses who have video footage of the first 5 minutes of the fire (between the time the fire started and the early arrival of the Fire Department to the scene). Anyone with specific video footage of the beginning of the fire is asked to send it to Constable Jeff MacDonell of the Identification Unit.”

Anyone with any information can email Cst. MacDonell at macdonell.j@cornwallpolice.com
