Marijuana grow house dismantled in Akwesasne: cops

CORNWALL, Ontario – A suspected marijuana grow-op was shut down in Akwesasne this week.

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department arrested two Akwesasne residents on June 16 while executing a search warrant at a Cree Road home on the reserve.

Police seized 11.215 pounds of marijuana, 16 marijuana plants, and numerous devices associated with an indoor growing operation.

Stacey Smoke and Cheyenne M. Ransom have been charged with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Both individuals were arraigned in the Bombay Town Court by Judge Smith. Smoke was remanded to Franklin County Jail on $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond. Ransom was released under supervision.

St. Regis tribal police said the following agencies assisted: Franklin County District Attorney’s Office, the Franklin County Border Narcotics Task Force, the New York State Police Narcotics Unit and K-9, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Drug Enforcement Agency.
