CORNWALL, Ont. – Ontario Lt.-Gov. Elizabeth Dowdeswell has postponed her visit to Cornwall.

The lieutenant-governor was supposed to meet with members of city council and chiefs from the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, as well as United Counties of S.D. & G. Warden Jamie MacDonald Tuesday.

But city hall issued a release Monday saying the meeting has been postponed.

“It’s a scheduling issue,” said city public information officer Kevin Lajoie.

A new date has not been set.

The Lt. Gov. is the Queen’s representative in Ontario, and conducts constitutional, representational, and ceremonial duties.

Dowdeswell, a former undersecretary general of the United Nations with a long public service career, took office on September, 23, 2014.

She was born in Northern Ireland and immigrated to rural Saskatchewan with her parents in 1947.
