ONTARIO – The province of Ontario has announced its plan to distribute five million free COVID-19 rapid test kits each week for eight weeks starting yesterday, Wednesday, Feb. 9.
“This is great news,” said Jim McDonell, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry. “We have many different locations across our riding where these rapid antigen test kits can be picked up. The products will be replenished every week as the Ontario government has been able to secure supplies, which will add to the federal test kits when we receive them.”
The test kits will be available and select grocery stores and pharmacies. Additionally, the province will be distributing 500,000 test kits to community partners in vulnerable communities.
“As we continue to carefully ease public health measures, rapid tests are providing another layer of protection and offer the public an additional tool to confidently do the things they love, like visiting family or dining at their favourite local restaurant,” said Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “In addition to the millions of rapid tests deployed each week to support priority settings, including hospitals, long-term care homes and schools, working with our retail and community partners we are increasing access to at-home rapid tests.”
