CORNWALL, Ontario – Community Living Stormont County (CLSC) hosted its tenth annual appreciation banquet recently to thank members of the community for their contributions in the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities.
It’s to recognize employers, volunteers, friends, parents, and professionals – anyone who has gone above and beyond, said Nicole Paquette, community placement coordinator, with Community Living.
Joining the long list of local businesses, that have supported CLSC for many years, new employers included Dr. Wash, Flowers Cornwall, Heritage Heights Retirement Home, Salvation Army Furniture Store, Service Master, Value Village and Winners.
New this year, CLSC had been recognizing people on a monthly basis for their good deeds and inclusion.
Among these award recipients were Sue Quenneville, the cook at Primrose Manor; Sharon Farley, employer at Lola’s Pub and Grub; Brian Parent, coach of the Men’s Nativity Bowling League; Ron Lavery, volunteer and friend; and Jill Jonkman, figure skating coach with the Skate Canada figure skating club.
Community recognition awards were presented to The City of Cornwall employees from Optimist Park; the Freehouse Montessori School staff; Marlene Lafave; Chief Dan Parkinson, Cornwall Community Police; Judy Larocque; and Mary Smith.
The event was held at the Best Western and attended by approximately 200. Guest speakers for the banquet were Marilyn McMahon-Ayerst, executive assistant to MPP Jim McDonell and Tori MacLean program supervisor from the Ministry of Community and Social Services.
