MAXVILLE, Ontario – Summer and the fair season began on June 21 the way it always does, with the Maxville Fair.

The Kenyon Agricultural Society had a weekend full of fun and activity planned for the 131st edition of the Maxville Fair and the weather cooperated with a warm and sun filled three days.

There were bouncy castles, a petting zoo, pony rides, exhibitions and educational agricultural demonstrations throughout the weekend.

Friday night saw the annual Friday Nite Lights Football game as the Alexandria Gaels took on the Cornwall Wildcats.

Saturday morning started with the 4-H Showmanship, and a Baby Show at 11 a.m. at the Metcalfe Centre. Babies were awarded for best smile, cutest feet, curliest hair and more. All of the 44 babies were winners.

In the afternoon, there was the men’s and ladies tug of war, and the Truck and Tractor pull.

In the evening, entertainment was provided in the beer tent by the Yvon Leroux Band.

Sunday promised more fun with the Donkey Show, the SD&G Highland Dancing competition, awards presentations in the Exhibit Hall, the Antique Tractor Pull and entertainment from Roger, Uncle George & Friends on the Metcalfe Centre Patio.

Fair Committee President Steve Rolland said this all would not have been possible without their dedicated team of over 40 volunteers.

“We are continuing a family tradition and we are trying to make it better every year,” he said. “It wouldn’t work without the help from volunteers.”
