CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwallites, young and old, gathered at the city’s cenotaph on Second Street for a solemn Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday.
The sound of bagpipes and thump of marching bands filled the area surrounding the Cornwall Cenotaph as a short ceremony was convened to honour those who gave their lives in conflict in defence of Canada.
Wreaths were laid at the cenotaph by veterans, elected officials and others to honour the sacrifice of soldiers, pilots and sailors who have been killed in action.
Later today Prime Minister Stephen Harper will say a few words at a cermeony at the memorial to the Battle of Crysler’s Farm near Morrisburg.
