LANCASTER, Ontario – If you’ve always dreamed of being a firefighter and live in South Glengarry there’s some good news for you.

The Township of South Glengarry is currently seeking individuals interested in serving as volunteer firefighters within the community. A firefighter recruitment drive will be held April 23 at Station #4 (Lancaster) beginning at 8 am.

Applicants must complete and submit an application form before April 20. Applicants must be physically and mentally prepared to successfully complete the Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment process. The recruitment process consists of written aptitude, agility and interview testing. Successful applicants will participate in a six-week recruit training program.

“Volunteering as a firefighter is a rewarding and challenging experience that involves more than responding to fire emergencies,” said Acting Fire Chief Dave Robertson. “Our firefighters also participate in public education, fire prevention and fundraising activities. I would encourage any interested individuals who meet the eligibility requirements to apply before the April 20 deadline.”

South Glengarry Fire Services is divided into five fire districts. Residents from the fire districts of Glen Walter, Martintown, Williamstown, Lancaster and North Lancaster are welcome to apply. To be considered a candidate for a volunteer firefighter position, applicants must be a resident of South Glengarry living within the district where they are applying and have the capability of responding to emergencies within a reasonable timeframe.

The application form and employment conditions can be downloaded from the South Glengarry website on the Emergency Services page or picked up at the Township office located at 6 Oak Street in Lancaster.
