CORNWALL, Ontario – Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS) of SDG&A and the Agape Centre have teamed up for Glam Swap, the ultimate girls’ night out.
First and foremost, this is not your typical fundraiser.
Unless you’re a Cornwall firefighter volunteering at the event as a server for the evening, it’s strictly women only.
Organizers say it’s a chance to relax, mingle, eat, drink, and swap things you no longer need or wear.
“We just wanted to have a fun women’s only night that supports two great organizations in our community,” said Trudy Watt, public education coordinator for SASS.
So, how does it work?
Buy a ticket. Bring a minimum of 10 items to the Agape reception desk by Wednesday October 22. Then, on the night of the swap, you can take home as many items as you brought – for free.
Items should be trendy/fashionable/classic clothing, jewelry, purses, shoes, and accessories in good condition and quality only. All clothes should also be freshly laundered.
“We are asking for trendy and classic pieces as all of the remaining items will stay at the Agape,” said Watt.
All funds raised will be split between both non-profit agencies.
“We wanted to give people a taste of what makes shopping in our thrift store so great,” said Kendra Smith, volunteer coordinator for the Agape Centre. “We’re hoping people will experience the thrill of finding an incredible item that may not be new, but it’s new for you.“
Glam Swap will be held in the St. Columban’s room, upstairs at the Agape at 40 Fifth Street West, on Friday, October 24, from 7 to 10 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and there are only 75 available. Buy them online at agapecentre.ca or Scotiabank on Brookdale Avenue in Cornwall.
Ticket price includes appetizers, two free drinks, and a chance to win a door prize.
There will also be a silent auction with a genuine Coach purse, local art, gym memberships, spa treatments, a night at the Best Western, and more.
