South Stormont – At the Regular Council Meeting of August 10, 2022, Council for the Township of South Stormont approved the creation of the Township of South Stormont Student Bursary Program.

The annual bursary program will see three deserving young people from South Stormont receive $1000 bursaries to be used toward their planned post-secondary education.

“We have some truly incredible young people in our community, and the South Stormont bursaries will allow us to invest in their education,” says Bryan McGillis, Mayor of the Township of South Stormont. “Post-secondary education is an excellent endeavor for our young people, but it is one that comes with significant costs. We hope this program will help to lighten the load for some deserving students,” he added.

To be eligible for the South Stormont Student Bursaries, applicants must:

  1. Be a resident of South Stormont
  2. Be graduating from Grade 12
  3. Provide proof of registration to a college, university or other post-secondary institution in a full-time program in the fall of the current year, in any field of study that is a minimum of two years in length
  4. Must have demonstrated a passion for community leadership

The South Stormont Student Bursary is now open for applications, with a deadline for submissions of September 13th, 2022. It is expected the successful applicants will be honoured at the September 21, 2022 Regular Council Meeting.
