Boundary Road and Highway 401 is now open.

Just before 12pm today a tractor trailer travelling westbound on Highway 401 inexplicably crashed into a support pillar underneath the overpass on Boundary Road in Cornwall. Traffic was being re-routed onto McConnell Avenue and Summerstown Road causing major traffic jams in these areas, as well as on Boundary Road, Marleau Avenue and Highway 401 from Summerstown exit to the McConnell exit.

The front end of the tractor trailer caught fire and it completely melted, leaving only a mound of black metal. Constable Mark Evans of the SD&G OPP said the driver was taken to hospital and did not sustain life threatening injuries.

The Boundary Road overpass was completely shut down as well as the Highway 401 McConnell eastbound lane. Drivers travelling north on Boundary were being redirected by Cornwall Police east onto Tyotown Road and west onto Marleau Avenue. Westbound traffic at the Summerstown exit of Highway 401 was being redirected north and south onto Summerstown Road.
