UPDATE: Horrific crash claims life of 22-year-old

Condolences are pouring in online for a young man killed after his car slammed into an SUV in a horrific crash on County Road 2 in South Stormont on Thursday evening.

Nicholas Baker, 22, a South Stormont resident who celebrated his birthday Monday, was heading west in a Saturn when his car moved into oncoming traffic and struck a Ford Explorer around 6 p.m. near the Lost Villages Museum.

The Ontario Provincial Police said Baker was brought to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Baker’s friends were understandably devastated by the news and reams of condolences have been posted on his Facebook page.

Rest in peace Nick. Such a sad day .. My heart goes out to all family and friends,” read one post, while another suggested Baker’s death leaves many saddened. “Rest in peace man only met you a couple times but still my heart goes out to your friends and family.”

The 53-year-old woman who was driving the Explorer received minor injuries.

The road was closed for seven hours while investigators combed the scene.

The crash lead to a second accident which occurred on the same road, with the passengers of both vehicles suffering minor injuries.

The OPP and traffic collision officials investigated the accident until well into the morning hours of Friday.
