CORNWALL, Ontario – Things will get fishy this weekend at the St. Lawrence Power Development Visitor Centre in Cornwall.
The St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences will host a fish and eel information session at the centre on Saturday. The event runs noon to 4 p.m.
The River Institute’s “Real Eel” expert Matt Windle, who has been tracking eels in the St. Lawrence for the past year with his team, will be featured during the event.
“The American eel travels thousands of kilometres in its lifetime, and on its journey, it will spend time in the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence River, and the ocean,” said Windle. “This afternoon event gives children and parents a chance to see and learn about eels and other species of fish and understand more about their importance to the ecosystem in a fun, hands on environment.”
The St Lawrence River provides habitat for hundreds of different species of fish.
This family workshop is the second in a series of five science sessions this summer at the Visitor Centre and is delivered by educators from the St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences in partnership with OPG.
