CORNWALL, Ontario – A new and uniquely named art gallery is opening in Cornwall this weekend, Saturday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cornwall artist Tracy Lynn Davies is the owner of the new Cailuan art gallery and the name is the combination of the names of her two children, Cailan and Euan. Cailuan is also a Native American word meaning "journey".

Cailuan’s journey started from the desire to have a place for local artists to display and sell their work.

"The gallery is going to be able to help local artists by providing them a place to display their work," said gallery Curator Sandra Taylor Hedges. "A lot of these artists work only out of their homes and have no where to show what they produce to potential buyers."

On opening day Cailuan will be host to about 40 to 50 pieces of art from approximately 30 local artists.

Some of the art that will be on display includes paintings, jewelry, glass work and sculptures.

Cailuan also aims to become a place where artists can support each other through teaching and learning.

"Artists will be able to come here and participate in classes taught by local artists," said Davies. "We hope to open our classroom starting in April."

Cailuan is located right in the heart of Cornwall at 225 Pitt St.
