CORNWALL, Ontario – Cornwall’s annual fireworks display, watched every year from Lamoureux Park, was delayed by about an hour this past July 1.

A volunteer with the committee told Seaway News that strong winds and strong currents in the river delayed the barge carrying the fireworks, and prevented it from getting into position.

The barge was helped along the best that it could be by the RCMP, OPP and Akwesasne police.

The fireworks did go off though in a spectacular display at around 11 p.m.

While the crowd waited, they were entertained for over an hour by popular local band, The Barstool Prophets.

The Cornwall Canada Day Committee, the Cornwall Optimists Club, Cornwall Tourism and the City of Cornwall came together to pull off a day filled with live, local music, fun events and activities in the park, as well as fireworks.
