CORNWALL, Ontario – The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) has announced that it will be resume administering routine childhood vaccinations, with their first routine vaccination clinic in the Cornwall area scheduled for Thursday, March 10 at the Cornwall Square.
These include vaccinations for young children that would protect them against diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis and polio (Tdap-IPV).
The vaccination clinics are open to children aged 0 to 10 and are by appointment only.
Appointments can be made by calling the EOHU at at 1-800-267-7120. In addition to the clinics, appointments are also available at all EOHU offices.
The resumption of the distribution of routine childhood vaccines comes two months after they were temporarily postponed by the EOHU.
“As I said last week during my briefing, we have been asked by the government to prioritize COVID vaccination and to redeploy all staff to COVID vaccination activities. As a result, we have temporarily postponed our routine vaccination clinics, among other programs. We will re-evaluate in January based on our progress with COVID vaccine and our human resource capacity as we would want to resume these vaccinations as soon as operationally possible,” said Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, EOHU Medical Officer of Health in a statement to Seaway News on Dec. 23.
The EOHU is asking parents to check their Routine Vaccination schedule as their children may have fallen behind.
