MPP Jim McDonell.
CORNWALL, Ontario - In an emailed statement to local media, Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell has endorsed Christine Elliot for the leadership of his party, the Progressive Conservatives (PC).
"I am proud to support Christine Elliott for Leader of our PC Party," the statement reads. "Christine brings great wisdom and a tremendous wealth of experience to the position, including being an MPP for nine years, our Deputy Leader, a professional lawyer and a tireless community advocate."
Elliot is currently one of five individuals competing to replace Patrick Brown as leader of the PC Party.
Brown resigned the position after CTV published a story alleging sexual misconduct on his part, a claim which he has strongly denied.
Other candidates in the race for the PC leadership include Doug Ford, Caroline Mulroney, Tanya Granic and Patrick Brown himself, who announced on Friday that he would seek to regain the position he stepped down from despite being kicked out of the Conservative caucus by interim leader Vic Fedeli.
McDonell's statement on Elliot went on to laud her strong leadership skills, which he said he hoped would unite his party and bring integrity to the office of the Ontario Premier.
